Youth Chapel

Calling all youth!

Psalm 127:3 | Know this: children are a gift from the Eternal; the fruit of the womb is the Creator’s reward.

Youth are important and valued members of our church

and we focus on creating a safe space where all are accepted.

All youth are welcome to join us each Sunday for Youth Chapel and we currently have youth ranging from ages 5 to 15, using various pronouns and having varies gender identities. Our lessons are centered around Jesus and familiar Bible stories, as well as our church values, which spark interesting theological discussions and lead to service opportunities and other creative activities. We’ve worked in the fairy garden and discussed the topic of community, built an igloo out of plastic bins (image below) then discussed hospitality, and once we even made slime and the older youth assisted the younger youth learning about being of service.

Building an igloo and tying the lesson to hospitality and how to treat people when they are our guests.

Not only is this a safe place for youth to share about their lives, their challenges, their successes, and build a community with other youth, all staff and volunteer adults who work with children at our United Church of Ferndale have been background checked and adhere to our MinistrySafe Policy.

What youth can expect when they come to our church: Children join the congregation for the first part of worship. They’ll hear the announcements, join in the Land and Labor Acknowledgement and Passing the Peace of Christ, and then Pastor Joel will give a special sermon for the youth to reflect on. After a quick prayer, the congregation will sing a lovely song to the children as the leave for Youth Chapel. On the first Sunday of the month, youth are brought back into the sanctuary at the end of worship so that they may accept the communion offering, bread and grape juice, with their families.
